2-24-2009 Alabama Hills (Scr)amble

I got all excited about my new approach shoes, so I got up early and went scrambling and ambling in the Alabama Hills.

My scrambling/climbing skills were pretty rusty, so I didn't push it much.
I enjoyed the movement though and loved the scenery.

2-21-2009 Ship's Prow Area

At last, I am back home and skiing!
Good friends, mountains, and good skiing made for a fine return to normalcy.

Steve, Annie and I visited the Ship's Prow area of the Mammoth Crest.
The Ship's Prow is the rocky formation on the far right.

Snow stability on the upper slopes was a bit dodgy though, so we stayed on the lower angle aprons and bowls.

This fine couloir in the Hammil Cirque definitely got our attention.

The skiing here was excellent. There were patches of wind pack elsewhere, but generally the snow was light powder.

Here's Steve keeping the tele stoke going.

Yep, the snow pack in these parts is looking pretty good. Finally.

Thanks to all of my good friends and my wonderful family for their support during these difficult days. I love you all.

2-12-2009 Altadena

As most of you know, I have had a sad dose of personal tragedy lately with the passing of my father. His smile and good humor will be missed by many.

The mountain bike riding in the San Gabriel Mountains proved to be good therapy.

This is the rugged upper section of Mallard Canyon.

The big views west to Mt. Lukens.

There are miles of wonderful singletrack like this.

And many mile of great fire road too.

It was nice to find peace and tranquility in these hills.
