Riding Around

Owing to some minor hip/back issues I've been taking it pretty easy doing shorter, less blog-worthy rides.

Fortunately even a quick outing brings me to scenery like this. Ten minutes from downtown!

I'm trying to stay strong.

I did one noteable ride down south of Big Pine and found two gold (I presume) mills.

This is an arrastra used to pulverize ore to fines. The arms rotate dragging the boulders attached to the arms by chains.

Found a nice thistle near the second mill.

This mill had an interesting conveyor tower recently reinforced with a board and some strapping.

This mill was powered using a Pelton wheel. Water under high pressure was ejected from the nozzle (left) onto the wheel which turned a series of belts and pulleys in the mill.

Another view. Clearly folks are minimally maintaining the mill as evidenced by the relatively new shingles on the roof.

We've had a lot of interesting clouds, several high wind events, and record hot temps.

Springtime on the Eastside!
The body is feeling better, so I'm hoping to get back to adventuring soon.

Mother's Day Ride

Since it is Mother's Day I figured I go on a ride, take a bunch of pictures, and post a blog entry for my biggest blog fan - my mom!

Thought I'd send her flowers.

The mountains were looking good too.

Wrapping it up with a couple cacti pics from our garden.

Happy Mother's Day Mom!
Love you bunches!
