Haute Route Day 2

After a fairly good night's sleep I woke early and hung out in the dining area updating my journal and studying maps. Jed took this one of me. That's a window not a poster!

The weather was unsettled as we prepped to leave the Trient hut. Doc John ready for another day.

Isaac and Nicki raring to go too.

The day started with a short descent on the Trient glacier then a short steep climb to the Col des Ecandies. Dave on the glacier below the hut.

We transitioned from skis to boots with crampons at the base of the col.

Nicki ascends the col which was a mix of rock, dirt and snow. The fixed lines helped for sure.

All smiles at the top. Pic by Jed.

Surprisingly pleasant.

The final leg of this shorter day involved a long descent of this valley the Valle de' Arpette.

We found some decent snow up high and dealt with some refreeze lower. Looking back up to the col.

A short walk from the end of the snow brought us to the little village of Champex and this delightful cafe. Lunch and espresso hit the spot.

Dave arranged a van to take us to Verbier where we lodged in a chalet and enjoyed this view for the afternoon.

Spring had definitely sprung here!

Sweet.
