Toiyabe Range

Mary and I recently took a road trip through Nevada and into Utah. Our first stop was in the Toiyabe Range in central Nevada north of Tonopah.

We camped at Kingston Campground which was free, quiet, and delightfully cool compared to our home in Bishop.

After setting up camp we drove up canyon and went for a nice hike up Mahogany Gulch below Bunker Hill.

A jeep road climbed up into a thick grove of the namesake Mahogany.

The landscape was surprisingly green.

Kingston Creek just above camp.

The next day we drove up to the pass between Kingston Creek and Big Creek and hiked up a steep ridge that forms the spine of the range.

Looking down into the Big Creek drainage.

Bunker Hill

Mary enjoys a short relatively flat section.

Great flower patches along the way.

We had a couple of wildlife encounters along the way. Momma Grouse.

And a Gopher Snake.

We noticed this white object on the way up and thought it was a communication site.

Turned out it was a tent with a couple of horses and a sheepherder!

From our high point the views were fantastic!
