White Fang Zone

Yesterday I got out relatively early to go ski in Rock Creek only to find the gate still closed at East Fork (apparently opened later in the day), so I came up with Plan B, driving up Tobacco Flat.

The road was in good shape with one short 4x4 section and took me all the way to the approach gully beneath mini Morrison. On snow just a few yards from the truck. Cool!

Although filled with lumpy avy debris, the snow was continuous clear up to the mouth of Old Man's Bowl....

which itself was not at all inviting. Solar aspects burned off and the remainder highly textured.

So I kept heading up the drainage. The Hippy Chutes were also fairly well textured except for the biggest/middle which looked smooth with windboard and/or recent windblown snow.

Kept heading up the valley. East Face of Mt Morrison is pretty well burned out.

Snow sculpt and White Fang

It's been a while since I've been back in this zone. Click here. Love the scenery.

Honestly, there aren't any real good skiable lines left back here except the Hippy Chutes, but I made the most of it by skinning up to the base of White Fang and skiing the slope just left of the rocky rib center.

Found real nice snow there.

Once again it was crucial to find the slightly solar aspects where the snow was smooth and soft.

Lower down the lumpy snow had softened. I wouldn't call it fantastic skiing, but enjoyable enough right to the truck.

Bonus view on the drive out!

 Nice day for sure!

Best thing in my feed today . . . as usual. So great that you've got this access. San Francisco has been pretty much nothing but cold and windy and I hope if anything, this bit of storm or rain we are supposed to get, lays a little more of the fluff on top, for you.
