Back in the swing of things.
Headed north of Mammoth looking for powder in sheltered trees. No wind affect here but the high April sun had taken its toll.
Managed to find a little cold snow up top, skiable sun crust mid slope, and corn like snow lower on a SE facing aspect. Not bad. Glorious day.
Day two I tried my hand down south.
Tons of avalanche debris up here.
Had a fine run off this shoulder though.
Was thankful for this narrow ribbon of unmolested snow next to the debris field.
Linked a few of these snow tongues to get down.
There's snow in them thar hills!
Day 3, yesterday, I joined my buddy Chris for another adventure down south. A bit of a hike to snow on a good trail here.
More huge avalanches. A large slide from the left dammed the canyon forming this "caldron"
Debris everywhere, but we managed to largely skirt it.
The sun made a brief, although intense, appearance around 11am. The snow here was getting soft and a little punchy so we turned around. Good skiing was had.
The dry, but pleasant hike out went by in a breeze. This area is going to pop with flowers in a week or two.
Good times.
