Yesterday Ben and I headed up the South Fork of Big Pine Creek to "have a look." Parking is at the usual winter location below Sage Flat Campground. Easy travel on a snow cat track brought us around and into the South Fork.
Reasonable coverage here. The route to Mt Alice right center.
We elected to head up the backside of Kid Mountain. Here we transitioned to boot crampons. Firm surfaces abound.
Once up the initial steep section the angle eased and we continued on up this snowfield.
Neither of us were particularly motivated to continue up, so we took a break here and headed down.
Slide Mountain left and Mt Alice right.
Nice adventure. Fair skiing for the most part on firm, but smooth snow along with "mixed" facets.
